    Biography/Administrative History

    The Wells Fargo Company was launched as a joint stock enterprise on March 18, 1852 by Henry Wells and William G. Fargo. Wells Fargo was created to serve as an express and banking business and served Gold Rush California.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    The collection consists of business records of the Wells Fargo & Company Express and include an employee instruction book, collection books, directories, tariff books, circulars specifying instructions for the shipment of specific items, employee information, and miscellaneous receipts, memorandums and reports.
