Biography/Administrative History

Soroptimist International was founded on December 4, 1924, as Soroptimist International of San Jose. The club was renamed to Soroptimist International of Silicon Valley after merging with two other local clubs. It serves as a voluntary service organization committed to improving the lives of women and girls.

Scope and Content of Collection

The records comprise membership rosters (1948-1987), by-laws (pre-1948 thru 1986), programs of activities (1939-1942), Installation Dinner programs (1957-1967), newsletters (1959-1971 broken run), minutes (1925-1963), maps showing the boundaries of the San Jose club, scrapbooks (1926-1971), photograph albums, and other assorted records of the Soroptimist Club of San Jose, also known as Soroptimist International of San Jose. Included in the photographs is the 1939 Soroptimist Club album of member portraits.
