    Biography

    Wiard Ihnen was an American production designer active in film from 1920 to 1960. He moved to Hollywood in 1928 and married costume designer Edith Head in 1940. Ihnen was nominated in the art direction category for EVERY DAYӓ A HOLIDAY (1937), and received Academy Awards for WILSON (1944) and BLOOD ON THE SUN (1945).

    The Wiard Ihnen collection spans the years 1897-1960 (bulk 1936-1954) and encompasses 5 linear feet and 167 artworks. The collection consists of production material, research material, contracts, original drawings, general correspondence, and biographical data. It contains items relating exclusively to Ihnen separated from the Edith Head papers, as well as material donated by Harold Grieve.
