Biographical / Historical
Edward Anhalt (1914-2000) was an American screenwriter. He began as a writer with his first wife, Edna Anhalt, using the pen
name "Andrew Holt" in the 1940s, and their first screenwriting credit was for "Strange Voyage" (1946). He received Academy
Awards for writing for "Panic in the Streets" (1950) and "Becket" (1964).

Scope and Contents
This collection contains the papers of American screenwriter Edward Anhalt (1914-2000), dating from 1949 to 1969. Materials
include scripts and related items for thirty films and television programs (several unproduced). Many of the scripts have
personal introductory comments handwritten by Anhalt. There are also miscellaneous materials pertaining to the 1960 Writer's
Guild of America strike; various publicity clippings (1952-1965), and a short biographical memoir written in 1965 (Box 12,
Folders 13-14). Some of the early screenplays were co-written by Anhalt's first wife Edna Anhalt.
