    Biographical/Historical note

    Harwell Hamilton Harris was born on July 2, 1903. Harris studied at Pomona College and the Otis Art Institute and the Frank Wiggins Trade School in Los Angeles, California. After school, Harris worked as a draftsman for Richard Neutra from 1928 to 1932, before becoming the principle of his own firm in 1933, which was based in Los Angeles. In 1951, Harris relocated to Austin, Texas, where he remained until 1962, when he relocated his firm again to Raleigh, North Carolina until 1975. Harwell Hamilton Harris died on November 11, 1990.

    Scope and Content note

    The Harwell Hamilton Harris drawings and model span 8 linear feet and date from 1937 to 1973. The collection is composed of three flat file folders, each contain drawings for different projects. Projects include: the Village Hall (Whispering Pines, North Carolina), the C. H. Wyle residence (Ojai, California), and the John Entenza residence (Los Angeles, California). The collection also includes a model of the Entenza house built for the Harwell Hamilton Harris exhibit at the Chouinard Art School circa 1939.
