Robert Lees and Frederic I. Rinaldo were American screenwriters and writing partners from 1934 until they were blacklisted in the early 1950s. Subsequently, Rinaldo worked only occasionally as a writer (he was a salesman for a wholesale paper company until his retirement in 1984) and Lees wrote for television under the pseudonym J. E. Selby.
The Robert Lees and Fred Rinaldo papers span the years 1932-1990 (bulk 1940s-1960s) and encompass 24.5 linear feet. The collection consists almost entirely of the writings of Lees and Rinaldo and includes scripts, treatments, outlines, short stories, and two unpublished novels by Lees. The television files contain material written by Lees for more than 50 productions in the 1950s and 1960s. There is also correspondence, contracts, financial records, and photographs.
