Description
The Roland West papers span the years 1916-1933 (bulk 1929-1932) and encompass 2.0 linear feet. The collection is almost exclusively devoted to correspondence, together with check stubs, receipts, and bills. The majority of the correspondence is personal in nature and does not relate to West's film career.
Background
Roland West was an American director, active from the mid-1910s to 1931. Closely associated with Gothic horror and mystery melodramas, he directed THE MONSTER (1925), THE BAT (1926), and THE BAT WHISPERS (1930), among others of the genre. The West-directed film ALIBI (1929) received three Academy Award nominations, including outstanding picture.
