    Biography

    Cecil B. DeMille was an American director, producer, and screenwriter active in film between 1913 and 1958. In 1913 he formed a partnership with Jesse Lasky and Samuel Goldfish (later Goldwyn) called the Jesse L. Lasky Feature Play Company. The company soon merged with Adolph Zukor's Famous Players Film Company and ultimately became Paramount Pictures, where DeMille became a leading producer.

    Collection Scope and Content Summary

    The Cecil B. DeMille photographs span the 1890s-1959 (bulk 1914-1956) and encompass approximately 64 linear feet. Seventy productions, from 1914 to 1956, are represented. Films directed by DeMille are covered extensively, with scenes and off-camera photographs showing various aspects of productions in progress. Studios represented include Artcraft, Lasky, MGM, Paramount, and Path?There are general publicity and other photographs documenting DeMille's social activities and personal life. Categories include awards, testimonials and honorary degrees, biography, birthdays, family, general, portraits, and pre-cinema. There are six scrapbooks, each with photographs on a specific film.
