The University of California, Los Angeles Arts Library opened in 1952. The Arts Library has more than 270,000 books in the
fields of architecture, architectural history, art, art history, design, film, television, photography as art, theater, and
allied disciplines.
The Elmer Belt Library of Vinciana is a special collection of books and materials concerning Leonardo da Vinci and the Italian
Renaissance. It was given to UCLA in 1961 by Dr. Elmer Belt, professor emeritus in the UCLA School of Medicine and a collector
of Vinciana for more than sixty years. Since Dr. Belt donated it, the collection has continued to grow, and it now encompasses
more than ten thousand volumes and many thousands of pamphlets.
The Princeton Index of Christian Art is a collection of prints, drawings, slides, and other visual materials that supported
the study of art history and represented an internationally renowned resource. In 1966, Chancellor Franklin Murphy arranged
for a microfiche copy of the index to be added to the collections of the Arts Library.
Record Series 164 contains the publications of UCLA's Arts Library. Files regard the Elmer Belt Library of Vinciana and the
Princeton Index of Christian Art. Materials include catalogues, related materials, announcements, and brochures.
