    Reprocessing included merging the contents of this record series with other records of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Business, formerly contained in Record Series 463 (Correspondence files, processed in 1992),and Record Series 464 (Agendas, minutes, and reports of staff meetings,formerly unprocessed). Those record series numbers have now been retired. Materials that do not fall within the scope of the UC Records Retention Schedule have been removed.
    Collections are processed to a variety of levels depending on the work necessary to make them usable, their perceived user interest and research value, availability of staff and resources, and competing priorities.     Administrative/ Biographical History

    The Office of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Business was created in 1974, serving within the portfolio of the Vice Chancellor for Administration. The Assistant Vice Chancellor was responsible for the oversight of campus Business Services, Extramural Support, Material Management, Communications and Transportation Services, and Housing and Food Services. The position was first occupied by Harland B. Thompson, who generated most of the materials in this record series.
    The Administrative Services Division included the Accounting Office, Affirmative Action Office, Campus Architects and Engineers, Cashier's Office, Central Stenography, Environmental Health and Safety, Facilities and Operations, Inventory, Mail and Messenger Service, Office Extramural Support, Personnel Office, Police Department, and Purchasing and Receiving.

    Scope and Content

    This record series contains materials created by the Office of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Business, including correspondence, annual reports, audit materials, staff and committee meeting minutes and agendas, and administrative files. This includes documentation of staff meetings, task forces, campus councils, and professional organizations, such as the Administrative Affairs Council, Business Affairs Council, Capitol Affairs Council, Disability Compliance Task Force, National Association of College and University Business Officers, Policy committee on Sales and Service Activities and Service Enterprise, the Expanded Management Group, Regents' meetings, and others. Also included are administrative files relating to major campus construction projects and long range development plans, facilities and space leasing, audits, transitions to new software and management systems, budgets and financial planning, affirmative action plans, employee relations and union negotiations, and major events such as the 1984 Olympics.
