Biographical/Historical note
Dr. Paul N. Goldstene received his Bachelor's degree in history from Wayne State University in 1957 and went on to teach social
sciences in public schools until 1960. In 1970 he completed a PhD in Political Science at the University of Arizona. Teaching
assignments at Idaho State University followed, culminating in Dr. Goldstene's hiring at California State University, Sacramento
in 1970. He retired as Professor Emeritus in the Department of Government, CSUS in 1998.
Winner of the "Outstanding Scholarly Achievement Award" for the academic year 1994-1995, Dr. Goldstene has published several
books and articles including the critically acclaimed The Collapse of the Liberal Empire: Science and Revolution in the Twentieth
Century (1977). He also wrote The Bittersweet Century: Speculations on Modern Science and American Democracy (1989) as well
as Revolution American Style: The 1960s and Beyond (1996).
Dr. Goldstene continues to pursue research on the American political scene and participates in public and scholarly forums
in his field of expertise. His papers reflect his involvement in teaching at CSUS, as well as scholarly research.
