Scope and contents

The Duvall Hecht Books on Tape Collection features print materials related to the operation of Books on Tape Incorporated (1975-2001). These materials include extensive correspondence from Duvall Hecht to partners, competitors, journalists, publishers, and aspiring narrators. Also featured are marketing materials, ranging from catalogues and newsletters sent directly to consumers in the mail to advertisements in newspapers and magazines; newspapers clippings about the donor and the company; and letters from fans and subscribers.

Source of acquisition

The Duvall Hecht Books on Tape Collection was donated to the Stanford Archive of Recorded Sound by Duvall Hecht in 2015.

Arrangement

The collection is organized in five series with much of the material in original order: (1) Correspondence and Related Documents; (2) Work Reports and Reading Files; (3) Periodicals and Periodical Files; (4) Posters and Prints; (5) Ephemera.
