Abstract: This collection consists of a bound typescript manuscript of Data for a Handbook on the Northern District of Baja California, compiled by Captain Harrington Willson Cochran, M.I.D., under the direction of the Department Intelligence Officer, Intelligence Office, Headquarters, Western Department, San Francisco, California, November 23, 1919. This is an unpublished work of 362 pages, including approximately 421 original photographs (taken by Cochran) and ten maps. Cochran's work provided the basis for Handbook on Lower California (Military Intelligence Division, 1920).

Collection Scope and Content Summary

This collection consists of a bound typescript manuscript of Data for a Handbook on the Northern District of Baja California, compiled by Captain Harrington Willson Cochran, M.I.D., under the direction of the Department Intelligence Officer, Intelligence Office, Headquarters, Western Department, San Francisco, California, November 23, 1919. This is an unpublished work of 362 pages, including approximately 421 original photographs (taken by Cochran) and ten maps. Cochran's work provided the basis for Handbook on Lower California (Military Intelligence Division, 1920). The manuscript is in two volumes bound together. Volume 1, "Northern Baja California," is 206 pages long and contains 317 photographs and 3 maps. Volume 2, "Southern Baja California," is 156 pages long and contains 99 photographs, 7 maps and 5 loose photos. The manuscript contains photographs and information about such places as San Diego, Mexicali, Tecate, Tiajuana, Ensenada, Santo Tomas, Rosario, Cedros Island, and Turtle Bay.
