Immediate Source of Acquisition
The Henry H. Brodeck stereograph views of Alaska were purchased by The Bancroft Library from Ken Harrison Western Americana
in 2017.
H.H. Brodeck is known to have operated a photographic studio out of Walla Walla, Washington from 1880, and photographed in
Alaska from April to July, 1881. He died in 1886.
Photographer's imprint on front of each mount: Photographed for the Northwest Trading Co. by H.H. Brodeck. A variant of this
statement also includes his studio location: Walla Walla, W.T.
Also printed on front of mounts: Scenes in Alaska.
Printed and numbered descriptive captions present on many mounts.
Some are oversize stereographs, measuring 12 rather than 10 cm in height. Mounts vary in color: buff, gray, and orange examples
present.
Six items (Bancroft item numbers 24, 31, 34, 36, 83, and 84) are not stereographic, but are single images on 12 x 18 stereograph-sized
