Scope and Content

Album contains 458 black-and-white photographs with a few handwritten captions, taken in Northwestern Mexico and Southern California, relating primarily to a mining operation. Mexico images feature a ranch hotel and several groups of Mexican women; men on horseback; marketscenes; desert shots with cacti, mountains; adobes with thatched roofs; views of Guaymas Bay and boats; trains; street views with buildings and churches; a survey team; men panning in a river; pack donkeys carrying supplies; miners, shaft entrances in the hillsides, mine shaft headframes.
Other photos, most likely taken in California, include campsites and tents; shipboard views; beach scenes; homes and gardens; group photos in the woods. Locations identified include Fuerte River, Choix, Urique, Cristo Verde, Colon, Batopilas, Guaymas Bay (Mexico); Los Angeles (California).
