- Biographical / historical:

Leah Hellman Meyberg was the daughter of Isaiah M. Hellman (d.1890). Her older siblings, were in the following order, Emma, Bertha, Camilla, and Marco. Their father came to Los Angeles from Bavaria, Germany about 1854; all his children were born in California. He was a merchant and also appointed to City Treasurer. His younger cousin was Isaias W. Hellman. The Hellmans are considered Jewish pioneers of the city. Leah Hellman married Eugene V. Meyberg, and she died while giving birth to a daughter.
