Description
Dr. Lyman A. Brewer (1818-1876) was a Union soldier during the Civil War, and medical officer for the Spotted Tail and the Red Cloud agencies in Dakota Territory from 1874 to 1876. This collection of papers on Lyman A. Brewer includes photocopies of biographical data; letters and notes from 1874 November 28-1876 April 14, and typed transcriptions articles, journal entries, and family correspondence from 1864 to 1865.
Background
Dr. Lyman A. Brewer (1818-1876) served in the Ohio regiments during the Civil War, contracted spotted fever, and was eventually advised to go West for his health. Brewer served as medical officer for the Spotted Tail and the Red Cloud agencies in Dakota Territory, writing letters to his family from there in the period from 20 Sept 1874 through 14 April 1876.
