Abstract: Harry Lawrenson was an editor for Movietone News. The collection mostly represents Lawrenson’s military service during WWII
and includes scrapbook pages and military service documents. Additionally there are of a small number of photographs that
appear related to Movietone News.

Harry Lawrenson was born in 1901 Liverpool, England and studied commercial advertising at City College of New York. He worked
for Fox Film/Movietone News as an editor in various capacities for 19 years before he applied for temporary appointment in
the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1943, he was assigned as a First Lieutenant to the Signal Corps Photographic Center
where he worked as an editor of war films and was promoted to Captain that same year. Lawrenson filed for and was granted
relief from active duty in 1945 and returned to Fox Film/Movietone.
The collection consists of scrapbook pages and military records related to the career of writer, editor, and producer Harry
Lawrenson. The bulk of the collection represents Lawrenson’s military service in the Army Pictorial Service during WWII and
includes scrapbook pages of forms, photographs, clippings, and telegrams. Additional scrapbook pages contain articles by or
about Lawrenson and his career with Movietone News. There is also a small number of photographs that appear to be related
to Movietone News and include images of the Hindenburg disaster, the assassination of King Alexander, the Duke of Windsor,
Herman Goering, Hitler, and Presidents Roosevelt, Eisenhower, and Truman, among others.
