Abstract: Tom Nolan (born 1945) is a gay politician, civil servant, and advocate who served on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors
(1985-1992) and as executive director of Project Open Hand (1994-2011). In 1988, Nolan ran, unsuccessfully, for California
State Senate. In 1991-1992, Nolan campaigned to be the Democratic nominee for the 14th House of Representatives district of
California. This collection includes correspondence, memos, meeting materials, clippings, and speeches related to Nolan’s
time as Supervisor, campaigns for the California Senate and U.S. House of Representatives; and participation in organizations
and events for lesbian and gay elected officials, including the Bay Area Municipal Elections Committee.
