Abstract: The grassroots Chicano theater group,
Teatro Cometa, was founded in 1979 and was active throughout
1980s in and around Fullerton, California. Embodying "Rasquachismo,"
Teatro Cometa endeavored to use their art as a teaching tool, to educate people
about significant issues within their community. Their work incorporated topics such as gang
violence and immigration, including issues facing undocumented workers. César Flores was a
founding member of the troupe. The collection contains Mr. Flores' posters, photographs, and
newspaper clippings.

Scope and Contents
The
César Flores Teatro Cometa Collection consists of César
Flores' keepsakes regarding Teatro Cometa, a grassroots Chicano theater group which was
active in and around Fullerton, California throughout the 1980s. The collection has been
arranged into three series:
Papers (1972-1992),
Posters (1974-2000), and
Non-Manuscript

Series I,
Papers, consists of programs, performance notes,
newspaper clippings, and amateur poetry. Materials are arranged alphabetically.
Series II,
Posters, consists of posters advertising performances,
rallies and protests, and other content of interest to the troupe's primary audience and are
arranged alphabetically.
Series III,
Non-Manuscript Material, consist of photographs and
ephemera, inclding a prop flag and banner and is arranged alphabetically.
