    Abstract: Record Series 760 contains the administrative files of Peter Dalis, Athletic Director, UCLA Intercollegiate Athletics. Files include: correspondence, contracts, analyses of income and expenditures, sports team files, reports, and statistics relating to administration of UCLA's intercollegiate athletic programs. Also included is information on: UCLA's participation in the Pacific Ten (PAC-10) Conference and the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA); use of the Rose Bowl stadium for UCLA football games; and the implementation of women's intercollegiate athletics programs, also known as Title IX . Sports team administrative files include: men's and women's basketball and football.

    Historical Note

    Peter T. Dalis (B.S. Physical Education UCLA 1959; M.S. Physical Education UCLA 1963) was UCLA Director of Athletics, September 1983-June 2002.
    William H. Spaulding was the first person at UCLA to be designated Director of Athletics, as of the 1937/1938 academic year. Up through June 1960, the programs of the Director of Athletics were administered and funded by the Associated Students of UCLA (ASUCLA); effective July 1, 1960, the Director of Athletics reported to the UCLA Chancellor.
    The Athletic Association of Western Universities (AAWU) was formed July 1, 1959 upon the dissolution of the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC). Original members of the AAWU were: Stanford University; University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA); University of California Berkeley; University of Southern California (USC); and the University of Washington. On September 3, 1968 the AAWU adopted the name Pacific-8 Conference (PAC-8).

    Scope and Content

    Record Series 760 contains the administrative files of Peter Dalis, Athletic Director, UCLA Intercollegiate Athletics. Files include: correspondence, contracts, analyses of income and expenditures, sports team files, reports, and statistics relating to administration of UCLA's intercollegiate athletic programs.
