Colonel Ralph E. Forsyth Photograph Album
The
L.F.S. Lipp Photograph Album documents Lipp’s trip to Mexico in 1914. The album consists of photographs of Mazatlan, Altata, San Blas, Santa Rosalia,
Mexico City, Ensenada, Oaxaca, San Luis Potasi, the Gulf of Mexico, Salamanca, Cape San Lucas, La Paz, and Guadalajara. Of
particular interest are photographs of street vendors selling milk, wood, chickens, straw, candles, and water. Also included
are photographs of thatch buildings, cactus, Judas dolls (life size effigies which represent problems in the world), fireworks,
pottery shops, rurales (the Mexican Rural Guard), the Sanatorium Guadalajara, and more. The album is compiled almost entirely
of photographs of local people. There are only a handful of photographs of tourists. Many of the album pages have short
one or two words captions in pencil in English and sometimes Spanish.
