Abstract: This collection consists of scores and notes documenting the collaboration between Giancarlo Aquilanti and Bob Weir to orchestrate a number of Grateful Dead songs. The core of the collection is the 196-page bound set of scores, inscribed by Aquilanti, that served as the second set of the First Fusion concert performed by Bob Weir, Giancarlo Aquilanti, the Marin Symphony Orchestra, RatDog, and other musicians on May 7, 2011, at Marin Center, San Rafael, CA. Additional scores and notes document their work.

Biography

Giancarlo Aquilanti was born in Jesi, Italy, and studied at the Conservatory of Music in Pesaro, Italy, where he received diplomas in Trumpet Performance, Choral Music, and Composition. In 1985, he moved to the United States, where he studied with Glenn Glasow at California State University at Hayward, receiving a Master's degree in Composition cum laude in 1988, and continued his studies at Stanford University, completing a Doctoral degree in Composition in 1996. He has taught at Stanford since then and now directs the Music Theory Program, as well as directing the Stanford Symphonic Orchestra and the Stanford Wind Ensemble. His numerous compositions have been performed all over the U.S. and internationally, and he has performed and led tours all over the world, including China, Italy, Germany, Hungary, New Zealand, Australia, Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
