Biography/Administrative History
Originally from a farm in Maine, Col. Wilson came to California during the Gold Rush, where he made his fortune selling implements
to gold prospectors. He operated a trading steamer along the Sacramento River. He later built a toll road and a toll bridge
in San Francisco.
•In 1852, Col. Wilson and a number of wealthy businessmen founded the Sacramento Valley Railroad and hired Theodore D. Judah
to locate and build the line from Sacramento to Folsom and Placerville.
