    Creator: anonymous
    Identifier/Call Number: MS.566
Physical Description: 21 pages (1 folder)

Abstract: Presumably the account is of the author's own experience. Manuscript includes 21 pages of an incomplete and handwritten account. The manuscript ends with her on a train before her arrival to Nevada on Christmas day. The name of the author is unknown.
    Language of Material: English .

    Biographical Note

Presumably the account is of the author's own experience. The account is of a young woman born and raised in England. Her father died when she was a baby and her mother was in delicate health so she was largely raised by her sister, Edith, who was ten years older than the author. She also had a brother Edwin who married when the author was ten and moved to Scotland.
Edith married when the author was 15 and moved to America - somewhere west of the Rocky Mountains says the author - possibly California. Her mother died when the author was 18. The author decided to go to America to live with her sister and brother-in-law. She describes leaving her old home, taking a steamer from Liverpool, England, resting with friends in New York and then taking the train West.
