The manuscript ends with her on a train before her arrival to Nevada on Christmas day. The name of the author is unknown.
    creator: anonymous

    Biographical note

Presumably the account is of the author's own experience. The account is of a young woman born and raised in England. Her father died when she was a baby and her mother was in delicate health so she was largely raised by her sister Edith who was ten years older than the author. She also had a brother Edwin who married when the author was ten and moved to Scotland.
Edith married when the author was 15 and moved to America - somewhere west of the Rocky Mountains says the author - possibly California. Her mother died when the author was 18. The author decided to go to America to live with her sister and brother-in-law. She describes leaving the old home, taking a steamer from Liverpool, resting with friends in New York and then taking the train for the West.
