Douglas Fairbanks, born Douglas Elton Ulman, was an American actor, producer, and writer active in film from 1915 to 1934. He founded his own production company around 1916 and during the 1920s starred in a number of popular films that showcased his personality, athleticism, and acting skills. Fairbanks was married to actress Mary Pickford from 1920 to 1936 and the couple reigned over Hollywood from their residence in Beverly Hills, known as Pickfair. Fairbanks and Pickford were among the co-founders of United Artists. Douglas Fairbanks Pictures Corp. was formed in 1917 in New York, and later had offices in Los Angeles. Douglas Fairbanks served as president and John Fairbanks as treasurer. The company was a subsidiary of the Elton Corp. of New York. Fairbanks served as the first president of the Academy.
