Museo del Barrio cofounder Raphael Montanez Ortiz is a multi media artist who gained recognition at the vanguard of the Destructivist movement of the mid 1960s with his manifestos and piano destruction performances. He is also known for his pioneering experimental film and video work, which has been exhibited worldwide.



He is currently Distinguished Professor in Visual Arts at Rutgers University.



This collection consists mainly of manuscripts, performance scripts, exhibition documentation, audio visual materials, ephemera and Ortiz's personal research papers.
