Abstract: Gotama (schooner) and Letitia (schooner) whaling journals (SAFR 16466, HDC 183) are photocopies of two sea journals from 1903
to 1911. The GOTAMA journal was kept by J.A. Macomber on an expedition from San Francisco to the Artic Ocean. It contains
short entries on course, weather and some comments on whales and seeing smoke from a volcano on Onekotan island. The LETITIA
journal documents two whaling trips also from San Francisco to the Arctic Ocean. Included are some small sketches of whale
fins on the margins. There are entries about finding darting guns under a seaman's mattress and the 1st mate taking the logbook
and refusing to return it until he received his discharge. The collection is available for research use without restriction.
