Scope and Contents

The Nathalie Furst Gittelman Travel Ephemera Collection documents tourism and travel after World War II. The collection includes publications created by tourism bureaus in various European countries, including road and metro maps, booklets, brochures advertising specific sites, and tickets to theatre performances and other attractions.
Nathalie traveld with Students International Travel Association (SITA) Inc., and the collection includes paperwork related to this specific trip, as well as itineraries for other trips students could take. The Sita-Travel Scrapbook includes contextual information on European history, art, and culture, and brief language tutorials. The Scrapbook notes that its revised edition is the first revision to the guide made since World War II.
Sites visited during Nathalie's trip included Folies Bergère, the Louvre, Paris, French Riviera, Loire Valley, and Mont Saint-Michel in France. She attended the Shakespeare Festival and visited Windsor Castle, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, the Edinburgh International Festival of Music and Drama, and the Pipes and Drums Regimental Band and Dancers of the Black Watch, Royal Highland Regiment in Great Britain. She visited Cork and Kerry in Ireland, and Florence, Rome, Pisa, and Perugia in Italy. Her travel ephemera also includes materials from the cities and regions of Brussels, Brugge, and Ghent in Belgium, Heidelberg and the Rhine Valley in Germany, and Interlaken, Lucerne, and Zürich in Switzerland.
Her travel diary includes additional information about sites visited, meals eaten, and travel logistics, including her first experience with air travel. Some materials from Scotland and Switzerland date from after the trip and were either collected during later travels, or gathered and stored with her earlier trip materials. Materials are arranged alphabetically, and by country when relevant.
