Scope and Content of Collection
Papers of Los Gatos attorney Tom Ferrito, who was involved civil rights and police conduct organizations in the Santa Clara
Valley in the 1970s and 1980s. Ferrito represented defendant Anthony Franco against charges relating to the investigation
of San Jose City Councilman Al Garza for corruption in 1979-1980. The papers include newsletters and related material of the
ACLU's Santa Clara Chapter, and ACOPP; research files on police brutality and grand juries, including a small file on the
shooting of Danny Trevino by San Jose police; case files from People v. Franco; and court records from Garza's grand jury
investigation, and People v. Hughes, Garza et al. In addition to court records, the papers include audio cassette recordings
of interviews of witnesses in the Garza proceedings.
