Biographical / Historical

The materials in this collection are from the University of Southern California's former Von KleinSmid Library for International & Public Affairs, whose archival materials have since been transferred to Special Collections.

Scope and Contents

This collection includes pamphlets, booklets, posters, periodicals, and literature regarding the United States involvement and sentiments of World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War. Collection consists primarily of WWII materials with a small number of items related to WWI and a significant portion of Vietnam War materials.
Among the WWII materials, many originate from the organization Committee to Defend America (1940-1942). Also represented are newsletters from Japanese American incarceration camps from the Topaz, UT, Gila River, AZ, Tule Lake,CA, and Heart Mountain, WY sites. Notably from the Heart Mountain Sentinel periodicals is a comic strip created by artist and former Hollywood animator, Bennie Nobori. The satirical cartoon features the adventures of Zootsuo, a young boy at an incarceration camp.
