Biography

Joseph Biroc was an American cinematographer active in film from the mid-1940s through mid-1980s. He photographed many of director Robert Aldrich's films. Biroc received an Academy Award for cinematography for THE TOWERING INFERNO (1974).

The Joseph Biroc papers span the years 1917-1993 (bulk 1943-1979) and encompass 11 linear feet. The collection contains scripts, cast and crew lists, correspondence, contracts, clippings, and photographs. There is some material regarding Biroc's military service during World War II.
