along railroad right of way that would be suitable for MX missile launches from a train.

Biography/Administrative History
class railroads through the Association of American Railroads, defense contractors and the United States Air Force, which
sought to identify locations along railroad right of way that would be suitable for MX missile launches from a train. This
project relied heavily on Transport Consultants, Inc., a company which was formed by former Southern Pacific Company valuation
engineer Lynn D. Farrar and Charles J. McDonald. Because of the work Mr. Farrar had done for the Southern Pacific Company
Historical Cost Study, he had a great deal of knowledge about the SP lines, sidings, bridges and other structures important
for this project. Other entities involved include the Association of American Railroads, the Federal Railroad Administration,
the Defense Mapping Agency, the Defense Contract Audit Agency, Rockwell International, Boeing Defense and Space Group, Aerospace
& Electroncis Division, and TRW Inc.
Scope and Content of Collection
Material includes reports, correspondence, project segment specifications, project cost estimates, contracts, fee schedules,
computer printouts, handwritten notes, memos, maps and graphics.
Subjects include descriptions of the project and the Southern Pacific Transportation Company's interaction with the various
entities involved, including Lynn Farrar and Transport Constultants Inc. PRGP directed Boeing Defense and Space Group, Aerospace
& Electronics Division to run a mobility test train in 1992. This train included Southern Pacific business car No. 252. General
data files include a copy of the PRGP history at Southern Pacific Transportation Company and copies of some profiles.
Southern Pacific valuation engineer Lynn D. Farrar arranged these materials by subjects in binders. Although the documents
have now been foldered, his original order has been maintained.
