Abstract: This collection contains records
documenting the activities of the California Constitution Revision Commission (1964-1974)
compiled by commission chairman Judge Bruce W. Sumner. Records include reports, minutes, and
correspondence of committees charged with revision of select constitutional articles,
commission minutes and reports, and press clippings from throughout California documenting
media coverage of commission activities. Ballot pamphlets dating from 1912-1968, as well as
notes, documents, and other background research materials collected by Sumner, are also
included.

Acquisition Information
Judge Bruce W. Sumner donated the collection to the Orange County Public Law Library
(OCPLL) in 1983. The collection was deposited by OCPLL at the UCI Libraries in 2014.
Processing History
A master index to the Sumner collection was created by OCPLL staff in the 1980s. It
describes records of the committees, commission, and ballot pamphlets; records identified as
background research, clippings, and correspondence and other supplementary documents are not
included. The index is available through the Online Archive of California and the Special
Collections and Archives reading room.
Collection Scope and Content Summary
This collection contains records documenting the activities of the California Constitution
