Abstract: This collection contains correspondence, science fiction convention programs, and a floppy disk from science fiction author
Vernor Vinge. The correspondence mostly concerns other authors and publishers sending Vinge their works for his review or
comments.

Processing of the Vernor Vinge papers was completed by undergraduate students from the University of California, Riverside
as part of the Special Collections & University Archives Backlog Processing Project started in 2015. This project was funded
by the UCR Library and administered by Jessica Geiser, Collections Management Librarian.
Vernor Steffen Vinge was born on October 2, 1944 in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He is an American science fiction author, who previously
taught mathematics and computer science at San Diego State University. He retired from being an educator at San Diego State
in 2000.
Vinge was awarded the Hugo Award for many of his novels and novellas, such as
A Fire Upon the Deep (1992) and
Fast Times at Fairmont High (2002). He is recognized for his hard-science approach to his novels, as well as his imaginative work of Internet fiction.
