    Biography/Administrative History

    Christopher Beaver is an award-winning producer, director and writer of films dedicated to human rights, freedom of expression, and the global environments. His films include the Emmy Award winning documentary Dark Circle; Between Dreams and History; Secrets of the Bay; and Tales of the San Joaquin. Beaver, along with film director and writer Judy Irving, founded the Independent Documentary Group (IDG), a nonprofit organization that produces a variety of films and media centered on human rights and the environment. Beaver was the Exhibition Curator for Nagasaki Journey, and co-produced and directed the correlating exhibition film. Nagasaki Journey opened in three cities simultaneously in the summer of 1995 to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. It featured photographs by Yosuke Yamahata taken on August 10, 1945, which form a comprehensive record of the effects of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan.

    The collection consists of material relating to curation of the Nagasaki Journey exhibition, including printed material, press, correspondence, contracts, audiovisual materials, slides, and photographs. The collection includes over 100 8x10 reference prints of Yosuke Yamahata’s photographs, and negatives produced from the August 10, 1945 photographic expedition of Nagasaki.
