Historical or Biographical Note
The TRIMOUNTAIN was a single screw steel tanker vessel built in 1919 by Bethlehem Steel Company in Quincy, MA. The ship's
gross tonnage was 6385, and it measured 415' x 56' x 32'9". The ship was originally built for the U.S. Shipping Board, a predecessor
of the U.S. Maritime Administration, as a naval auxiliary vessel. The ship operated in commercial service, under registered
owner Trimountain Steamship Co. of New York. The 1922 Department of Commerce list of US merchant vessels shows the owner to
be the Southern Pacific Company, and most surveys indicate that the ship was mainly operated out of San Francisco. The TRIMOUNTAIN
was renamed SPRINGWATER in 1947. It was scrapped in 1954.
The Trimountain (built 1919; screw tanker) (SAFR 14038, HDC 44) record collection consists of a page (one page) of shipboard
news entitled the "The Trimountain Bugle."
The newsletter consists of one page of typewritten news on the front and back of a 8" x 12" sheet originally served as a radio
log, dated (May 1934) Saturday 26th. Subjects of interest: Tokyo, Vienna, Washington, Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, Balboa, CZ
