    Biographical/Historical note

    Francis W. Wilson was born in 1870 in Massachusetts. At the age of 17, Wilson moved to the west coast where he settled in Placerville, California. In the early 1890s, he moved to San Francisco where he worked as a draftsman for the firm of Pissis and Moore. Wilson attended the American Institute of Architects located in the San Francisco Bay and went on to establish his own firm in Santa Barbara in 1895. Throughout the course of his career, Wilson was commissioned to design many homes for wealthy individuals in Santa Barbara, design buildings for the Santa Fe Railway, as well as many civic buildings in Santa Barbara such as the Santa Barbara Club and the Santa Barbara Post Office. Francis Wilson died in 1947.

    Scope and Content note

    The Francis W. Wilson drawings span 6 linear feet and date from 1916 to 1923. The collection is composed of two flat file folders, each containing drawings relating to two different projects. Projects that are documented are the Southern Pacific Company Railroad Passenger Station alteration (Santa Barbara, Calif.), as well as the Santa Barbara Free Public Library (Santa Barbara, Calif.).
