Biographical / Historical

The Esalen Center is a holistic learning and global retreat center focusing on human potential through experience, education, and research offering public workshops and conferences. https://www.esalen.org/
The archive consists of photocopied articles that were part of a research project conducted from 1976 to 1992. According to a letter from the president and CEO Sharon Thom to the Stanford Center for Research in 1996 (included in the first folder, Box 1), the archive is "diverse, covering the physiological and psychological effects of meditation, research in the fields of sports, philosophy, religion, cultural influences, volition, and many other subjects.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains the Esalen Archives of Extraordinary Human Functioning. Materials include 9286 folders containing photocopied articles pertaining to human movement, organized by author and numbered in sequential order. Also included are four cartons of index cards.
