Processing this collection has been funded by a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The 1980 Democratic National Convention had approximately 74 openly gay or lesbian delegates. The previous convention in 1976
had only 4. The 1980 convention was also the first time that an openly gay man had been nominated for one of the two top positions
of either major political party.
Photographs taken by Allen Shores at the 1980 Democratic National Convention. Most of the photographs are of the Lesbian &
Gay Caucus or of members of the caucus.
The collection is open to researchers. There are no access restrictions.
