Description
These are three printed certificates from the State of California all given to Thomas W. Freelon. The first certificate was given in 1853 for his appointment to County Judge of San Francisco. The 1878 Certificate was for his promotion to Municipal Court Judge of San Francisco and has a handwritten letter attached to it about him vowing to follow the U.S Constitution. The last is an 1879 certificate for his promotion to Superior Court Judge of San Francisco which has written on the back the written oath of Mr. Freelon.
Background
Thomas W. Freelon was born May 20, 1826 in Norwich, Vt. He attended Dartmouth College at the age of 13 and when on to Michigan Law College. He fought in the Mexican American War as a lieutenant in Co E 15th Regiment of the US Infantry. Fought at Battle of Vera Cruz
