Abstract: The Maud H. Miller papers is a collection of personal documents and correspondence from Maud H. Miller, a Riverside resident
and former employee of the United States Bureau of War Risk Assurance. Materials in the collection include Miller's correspondence
with multiple politicians on issues important to her, editorials and autobiographical stories written by Miller, family photographs,
and some personal correspondence.

Processing of the Maud H. Miller papers was completed by undergraduate students from the University of California, Riverside
as part of the Special Collections & University Archives Backlog Processing Project started in 2017. This project was funded
by the UCR Library and administered by Jessica Geiser, Collections Management Librarian.
Biographical Note
Maud Holmes Miller was born in Louisiana in 1876, and moved to Riverside with her family in 1877. She graduated from Riverside
Union High School in 1895, and in 1904 she was named Miss Riverside. She worked as a book keeper for several Riverside stores,
and in 1920 was working as a clerk for the Bureau of War Risk Insurance, a part of the U.S. Treasury Department.
Miller was an active participant in American politics, and was particularly involved in the America First Committee, a non-interventionist
pressure group against American entry into World War II. Miller was also interested in agricultural policy and trade, as well
as local politics. She eventually settled in Fallbrook, California, where she passed away on August 2, 1968.
Collection Scope and Contents
The Maud H. Miller papers is a collection of personal documents, including Miller's correspondence with multiple politicians
on issues important to her. This notably includes continued correspondence concerning agricultural policy and other issues
with George N. Peek, the first Administrator of the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA) under Franklin D. Roosevelt,
and George P. Clements, head of agriculture for the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce. The collection also includes editorials
and autobiographical stories written by Miller, family photographs, and some personal correspondence.
