Biographical / Historical

Gebbie & Barrie, originally known as Gebbie and Keppel, was a printing firm founded in 1867 by George Gebbie, a bookseller in Philadelphia, and Federick Keppel, a publisher of fine art books in New York. Kepple was replaced by George Barrie in 1873; Barrie came from Lippincot & Co. The first best-selling book published by Gebbie & Barrie was their "Illustrated Catalogue of Masterpieces of the International Exhibition, 1876". Gebbie dissolved the partnership in 1880.
