Private William Wheatley, American Expeditionary Force (10/2/1896 - 1/2/1972) was born and raised in central Indiana, born
on October 2, 1896 and died January 2, 1972.

This collection contains five letters and two greeting cards from Pvt. William F. Wheatley, AEF to his sister Margaret Opal
Wheatley during the First World War. Wheatley was stationed in Rennes, France and wrote about a variety of topics related
to army and camp life. Private Wheatley was promoted to Corporal on January 1, 1919.
Also included in this collection is one folder of six typed transcriptions of Wheatley's letters.

This series contains letters from PVT. William F. Wheatley, AEF to his sister Margaret Opal Wheatley while stationed in Rennes,
France during the First World War. Topics include life in Wheatley's camp, the importance of receiving mail, weather and buying
local candy in a nearby town.
Of interest is a letter dated Nov. 10, 1918 where Wheatley mentions the armistice planned for the following day and his feelings
about coming home.
