Content Description

This collection contains 10 letters written by 2nd Sgt. William D. Mitchell, USA to his sister, Mary Mitchell during the Spanish-American War. This collection also contains approximately four newspaper clippings, five ephemera, one typewritten document, and one handwritten document.
The first four letters in this collection were written during the month of May, 1898 from Camp Leedy, Topeka, KS. By June 12, 1898 Mitchell wrote from Camp Alger, VA to update his sister about his recent activities and shared rumors that his brigade might go to Long Island. Mitchell wrote the last letter in this collection on August 25, 1898 in which he updated Mary about his division's relocation from Camp Algers, VA to Camp Meade, PA.
