Abstract: André Previn is a pianist, conductor, and composer known for his command of classical, jazz, and film music. The collection
consists of material from very early in his career and contains manuscripts of musical arrangements and compositions, as well
as audio recordings of small-group performances.

Biography/History
André Previn is a pianist, composer, and conductor famed for his mastery of a variety of musical idioms, including classical,
jazz, and film music. Born in Berlin in 1929, he fled Nazi Germany with his family in 1939 and emigrated to Los Angeles. In
1946, he began working as an arranger, composer, and conductor at MGM. At the same time, he pursued a recording career and
made numerous appearances on the radio. He quickly garnered recognition in many quarters of the music business, and would
go on to win four Academy Awards and several Grammys.
Scope and Content
Collection consists of manuscripts of sketches and full arrangements (scores and/or parts) of a variety of popular and jazz
music titles and a few film productions scored by Previn. Also present are audio recordings, including some 15 inch transcription
discs of takes by various jazz groups (including the Andre Previn Trio), and also Previn interviews and concert performances.
