Biography/Administrative History
California Camera Club began in San Francisco in 1890 with an active membership. Membership included access to facilities
for photographic work, including developing, printing, enlarging, portraiture in a real gallery, retouching, lantern slide
and autochrome work, gum printing. The club became a charter member of the Association of Camera Clubs of America. Members
shared exhibits in the Academy of Sciences Building on Market Street. Outings for camera work were an important part of the
club’s activities. California Camera Club members made excursions to the Panama-Pacific International Exposition to document
the Fair. Monthly illustrated lantern slide lectures with submissions from members were held including documentation of the
Panama-Pacific International Exposition.
