Mikhail Itkin was born Michael Francis Itkin on February 7, 1936. In Los Angeles during the 1960s and 1970s, Itkin was a leader
in the Community for the Love of Christ and the Evangelical Catholic Communion (two of many names attached to the group) and
an activist advocate for gay rights and political causes. In the late 1970s Itkin relocated to San Francisco. Itkin died on
August 1, 1989.

Correspondence, flyers, newsletters, clippings, memoranda, notes, meeting notes, depositions, photographs, receipts, articles,
essays, broadsides, legal papers, medical certificates and other material documenting activities of gay religious leader Mikhail
(Michael) Itkin, 1956-1989. A leader in a group known by various names including the Evangelical Catholic Communion or Community
of the Love of Christ, Itkin was also a gay rights and political activist. The bulk of the collection consists of Itkin's
essays, broadsides, and correspondence on gay, political, and spiritual themes, mostly written when he lived in Los Angeles
during the 1960s and 1970s.
Some materials were sent to the International Gay and Lesbian Archives from Reverend Carol J. Davis of the Community of the
Love of Christ circa 1991. Other materials were donated circa 1982 by Reverend Mikhail Itkin.
