Abstract: Dr. John B Cladis was a nuclear physicist who engaged in nuclear and space physics research for over 60 years. The collection
is composed of a memoir, and reports and studies from Dr. Cladis' long career in nuclear physics. The reports date from the
1960s to the 1980s, primarily covering studies Dr. Cladis participated in during his work at Lockheed Research Laboratory
in Palo Alto.

Dr. John B Cladis was a nuclear physicist who engaged in nuclear and space physics research for over 60 years. He passed away
on September 12, 2019 at the age of 97. He studied radar systems at Harvard and MIT, then worked on advanced radars at Ft.
Monmouth, NJ and taught radar principles and repair at Sea Girt, NJ. He did graduate work in Nuclear Physics at the University
of California and worked at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. In 1951, after he received his PhD degree in Nuclear
Physics, John went to work at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he successfully test nuclear bombs in Nevada, Eniwetok
and Bikini. In 1955 joined the Lockheed Aircraft Company to form a missiles and space division, and then joined the Lockheed
Research Laboratory in Palo Alto, CA where he worked on radiation belts. In 1961, he went to Princeton University to study
plasma physics.
Scope and Content of Collection
The collection is composed of a memoir, and reports and studies from Dr. Cladis' long career in nuclear physics. The reports
date from the 1960s to the 1980s, primarily covering studies Dr. Cladis participated in during his work at Lockheed Research
Laboratory in Palo Alto.
