File contains handwritten letter from Mary Knowles to her husband Josiah N. Knowles. There is also a typed copy of the letter.
Written May 22, 1864.
Background
Josiah was born in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in 1830. He was a sea captain, sailing from England to New York and eventually
to San Francisco. He retired in 1844, and passed away in Oakland in 1896.
